Impact for everyone

Geneva inaugurated its first sparkling water fountain in June 2022 to beat the repeated heatwaves we all suffered this year. This installation marks Switzerland's first public fountain providing still & sparkling water 90% of which comes from the lake. While SIG also supplies more than 1'400 public fountains throughout the city of Geneva, outdoor reseller Urbanat and water dispenser manufacturer Fontaineo, joined efforts to campaign and shake the heatwave with its first smart fountain. Equipped with Droople’s iLink sensors and artificial intelligence platform, this collaboration would precisely monitor the consumption of water and the economical impact single-use plastic bottles has on the environment.

Rightly branded "L'Eau de Génève" this solar-powered water fountain not only filters 90% of lake water, but also provides the public with sparkling water. Within 2 months, we found:

  • 15,147L of water consumed since installation = 30,294 plastic bottles saved
  • 55,365 users since its installation = 390 users / per day!
  • Wednesday & Friday mid-later afternoons the most visited
  • 61% persons preferred sparkling water
  • 15m3 of water was delivered

Ecological, Environmental and Economic impact in real-time

Water dispensers at the office, a tap at home, or a public water fountain at the shopping centre. Until now fountains were “just doing their job” providing water. It was unknown how much water was consumed, the impact on the climate, or how much money was saved.

Droople’s iLink smart sensors and Water Intelligence Platform now allow drinkers to automatically gain insight into how many plastic bottles they avoided, their bottle cost savings, and their reduction in carbon footprint.

Vendors get real-time monitoring and set their tailored benchmarks according to affiliated organizations and their operations. The possibilities include pay-per-use business models, setting alarms for optimising water dispenser lifespan, and monitor water filter canisters or CO2 cartridges to plan replacements accordingly.

"Already a great success with +17,000 liters distributed, with +62,700 consumers... the ecological impact (via Droople's technology) is very positive with nearly 34,000 50cl plastic bottles saved and 3,000 kg less CO2!" Fabrice Cretin, General Director of Fontaineo
